For all medical professionals who hate their job and the patients they are responsible for , Highland Hills Post Acute, Pittsburgh PA is the place for you. If you are irresponsible, inattentive and , go hours without checking on your patients, you are perfect for this horrible facility. It’s dirty and it smells. Our family members deserve better than Highland Hills Post Acute Rehab Facility

This place TERRIBLE!! My mom got sent here for rehab and was mistreated BADLY by staff. My mother suffers from multiple strokes and requires a lot of care, the staff refused to bathe her feed her and barely did any rehab! They wouldn’t change her brief unless I called and demanded someone to. She had a catheter so please explain to me how she isn’t being bathed for days to a week. I wouldn’t recommend ANYONE to go to this facility they do not care about the patients at all I called and report this to my moms social worker at the facility and she stated she would talk to her DON and I have yet to hear any kind of follow up from either one of them they simply do not care!

I am posting this for those of you whom are researching facilities for your own family members. Do NOT plan for your family member to stay here, because if they do, they will not be around for much longer. We had a family member stay here during his last months. None of the facilities were “nice”. He was to be taking Lasix for his heart condition – which he NEEDED to be taking, or else the increased water weight on his heart would cause it to stop. We had found multiple times the staff were not giving him the medication, and we only were able to realize due to swelling in his legs. We had tried to address the issue multiple times, and it was ignored – multiple times. There was another instance of bandages and dressings not being changed on time, nor were wounds properly cared for. Within our family, we had discussed and come to the conclusion this facility lead to a lesser life worth living. We moved him out within a few months time, and thankfully too. Being a patient at this facility means you are nothing but an afterthought. The facility has rebranded multiple times over the years, most likely due to litigations / discrepancies with previous LLC titles. This place has rebranded so many times, they do invest in permanent marketing, rather a quick banner thrown over their old, original sign. Your family member would be better off in a homeless shelter. If I could give 0 starts, they certainly would have earned it.

I cannot say enough good things about this nursing facility. My grandfather was treated with nothing but respect & dignity during his time there. My family is forever appreciative of this facility!!

Tracy from the front office was great at getting us admitted into the facility. My husband has had 3 previous stays here, which have gone mostly well. There will always be situations that need attention, but the staff at the facility have always been open to rectifying those situations. After an horrific accident at home that caused an open complex ankle injury and 13 days in hospital, it was time to rehab. We went through a long list of facilities, chose a few and requests were sent out. Only 2 responded. One was too far from home for me to check in regularly, and the other was not in the best condition aesthetically, and morale was obviously low. (I toured said facility talking with admin, staff, and residents.) We lost sleep thinking that we might have to go to this facility because of a lack of other options. My husband called Highland Hills and asked if there were any way possible that he could be admitted, and if so to please give him a call. We decided to appeal the placement at the sub par facility and go through the list again with our case manager. As we were going through the list, Highland Hills staff called and said that they had a place for my husband. After all of the stress and anxiety that we’d been through, we counted this as a blessing. Staff was there to welcome us and offered to help in any way that they could. I expect that our lengthy stay will be a good one. I will do an update to this review.

Took care of my mother in so many ways – medically and rehab – the staff helped me to negotiate a lot of transitional paperwork

My father unfortunately passed away while under the care of Highland Hills. From the moment we admitted him, we had issues and had to constantly advocate for him. He was unable to walk due to back issues that were being looked after, and he also was dealing with tumor on his head, that was pushing against a nerve and not allowing him to eat or drink. That was being handled through radiation at the hospital. After being admitted, we found him the next evening, laying on his bed with his sneakers on still in the same clothing he came with the day before. His shirt was soaked. We called after and told them, and were informed they would look into it. They also sent him to a radiation treatment over at the hospital still wearing his gown, they couldn’t put a shirt on him before he was picked up. Then he was dealing with major pain in his back and had a prescription for pain medicine. After asking if he received it, we were told no and that his prescription was only 7 days and expired and they needed to call the doctor. Had we not been there, he would not have been receiving pain medication and would have been lying there in severe agony. Then because of his lack of eating/drinking (he had just started radiation), we were requesting he be provided bags of fluid. It took days and he was severely dehydrated. He did receive a bag, and we noted an improvement in his overall demeanor. They wanted to order a chest X-Ray, and wouldn’t give him additional fluids until that was concluded. They were prepared to let him go the entire weekend without IV Fluids. We met with the so-called Dr Ali, who when we asked about a feeding tube, we were told why prolong if he may not make it. There were no signs that death was imminent. We were shocked by the insensitive nature of this. In fact his much more respected cancer doctor was encouraging a short term tube. From a timing perspective, he had radiation on a Thursday and Friday at the hospital. Saturday was dehydrated, telling us he’s thirsty. It wasn’t until Saturday night he supposedly started receiving an IV drip. Sunday morning the nurses checked on him, his vitals were good. Then at 11:45AM we receive a call he passed away. It was sudden, and all we were shocked. They gave a cause of death of Cardiac Arrest, where he never had an issue with his heart, wasn’t on a heart monitor, wasn’t receiving Oxygen as his levels were great. I called Monday morning to speak to a nurse to find out when his last IV was administered, only to be told I needed to speak to a supervisor as he was already out of the system. No compassion at all. I have left multiple messages for the head nurse who was caring for him, and she has yet to respond. We are riddled with guilt that had we put him elsewhere he could still be alive and was improving from his radiation. Also, the need to advocate for him was evident. You can’t even get through on a phone as many times it just rings to voicemail. I don’t know what care would be like elsewhere, but clearly he wasn’t properly attended to at this place. I wish I had seen reviews like this prior; I never would have subjected my father to this facility. And hopefully this review helps other families who are in need.

Contacted facility on behalf of a family friend needing care. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and took the time to answer all of my questions. After contact, we toured the facility and guides took time make us feel comfortable and answered any additional questions that we had.
THIS IS A NURSING HOME. That being said, it’s the best in the area. The team members treat the patients as residents, not just patients. Remember this is not a hospital, the resources are different. I CHOOSE to send my mother there now as the Doctor running the place has made VAST improvements from when she was there in 2008. It’s 2025 and it’s almost a complete turn around from what I remember. As a nurse, this is the place you send your loved one. Try other places, chances are you’ll want to be at Highland Hills instead.
Not a nice place. All the other bad reviews speak for this place.
